The Object

Mei used a rolled blanket as back support.

For two years she'd sit up in bed sketching patterns and lean against a rolled wool blanket. We watched her do it one evening in late 2024 while we were going through fabric samples at her place. We asked if she'd want a proper bolster instead.

The cover is the same 300 thread count single-ply percale as our duvet cover. Same cotton, same Italian-spun yarn. The insert is a dense polyester-down blend, firm enough to actually support you against the headboard for two or three hours of reading, soft enough to read as "decorative" when it lives on the bed during the day.

90 centimetres long, 30 in diameter. Across the foot of a Queen bed it spans cleanly. Behind your back against the headboard it's a wedge that doesn't slide down at hour two.

Hidden zip closure on the underside. The cover comes off and machine washes cold. The insert washes too, on a warm cycle, then lay flat to dry. Most bolster inserts can't take a wash because they're built for decoration, not use. Ours is built for both.

Two colors. Oat or Charcoal. Match either to The Duvet Cover or The Sheet Set.

What you're holding

Bolsters fail at one of two jobs.

Either they're decorative and useless for actual lean, too soft, the insert squashes flat the moment you sit against it, or they're firm enough to use but ugly enough that you hide them away during the day. Most luxury bolsters do the first thing. Hospital wedges do the second.

We tested 6 inserts before we found the right density. Pure feather collapsed at hour one. Pure poly foam was too firm to read as soft. The poly-down blend at 1.4 kg holds shape for 2-3 hours of upright reading and bounces back overnight. The cover does the visual work, matches our duvet, sits clean on a bed, doesn't look "medical."

Common questions.

Is this decorative or actual back support?

Built for both. The poly-down insert at 1.4 kg holds shape for 2-3 hours of upright reading without collapsing. The cover matches our duvet so it reads as decoration when it lives on the bed during the day.

Will it match my Casa Hush sheets and duvet?

Yes, same cotton, same colors (Oat, Charcoal). The cover is cut from the same 300 TC single-ply percale as The Duvet Cover and The Sheet Set. Color match is exact across all three.

How firm is the insert?

Medium-firm. Holds shape under your back for 2-3 hours upright. Compresses to about 70% of full diameter when you lean hard. Bounces back overnight. Not as firm as a yoga bolster (those are 90% rebound foam) but firmer than a feather insert (those collapse).

Can I wash both the cover and the insert?

Yes. Cover: cold cycle, tumble low. Insert: warm cycle, lay flat to dry, not the tumble dryer (heat melts down filaments and clumps the fibre). Most decorative bolsters are spot-clean only. We built ours to take a wash.

Will it fit a standard bed?

90 cm spans the foot of a Queen or King cleanly. On a Cal-King (264 cm wide), it sits centered with room on either side. On a Full (135 cm wide), it slightly overhangs, still works but spans wall-to-wall.

What's the return policy?

30 nights. Try it both ways, decoration during the day, back support at night. If it isn't right, send it back. UK return shipping is on us. International, you pay return. The percale cover is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, same cotton as our sheet set and duvet cover.
