The Object

Why we made this one.

I bought my first "luxury" silk mask in 2021. £85, from a Goop guide. By month four it had thinned to gauze.

That mask is why Casa Hush exists. Three of us, all watching silk mask after silk mask wear through. Slip thinned. Lunya thinned. Drowsy fell apart in the wash. The money we spent on silk that didn't last was the brief.

So we tried duchess satin. Heavier than silk. Honest about what it is, a heavyweight polyester satin, woven dense. Our first 200 masks weighed an average of 47 grams. A Slip silk mask weighs 22. You notice the difference the first night.

Mei makes ours in Covent Garden. We met her at a textile fair in 2022, hand-stitching at her stand. We bought three. By the second night, we knew.

Our November 2023 batch was 47 units. By March 2026 we'd sold 4,800.

What you give up: silk breathes a hair better in summer. That's the trade. We picked the one we'd want, something that lasts a decade, machine washes, and doesn't claim to be silk when it isn't.

What you're holding

Satin reads as silk does. The metrics are where it differs.

Smooth across skin and hair. Drapes deep. Blocks light. Where duchess satin lands closer to silk than to the polyester satin in most mass-market masks: it's woven tighter, and the weight is half the reason it sits the way it does.

We weigh every batch. We sent the first 47 to an independent lab to confirm the 99% blackout number, they tested 50 mm of nose-bridge gap at 500 lux. We changed the strap three times. The contoured nose dip lifts the satin a few millimeters off the lash line, so wearers with extensions don't wake up with a flattened bottom row.

Common questions.

Is this satin or silk?

Satin. We say so on the label. Most luxury "silk" masks won't tell you their momme weight, duchess satin doesn't need to lie about anything. The trade: silk breathes a hair better in summer. Satin lasts longer and washes in a machine. More on the comparison →

How long does shipping take?

Production: 3–5 business days in Covent Garden. UK and EU: 2–5 days from there. US: 5–7. Rest of world: 7–14. We don't keep stock. When you order, Mei starts cutting your piece.

Will it stay put for side sleepers?

This is the one we made for them. We tested across 17 wear testers, 11 of them side sleepers. The contoured nose and the 18–24 inch adjustable strap keep it put. Most don't notice it shifting at night.

Can I machine wash it?

Cold cycle, mesh bag, mild detergent. Lay flat to dry. Never tumble dry, heat warps the elastic. Treat it that way and you'll get 8 to 10 years. We still get photos from wearers of our 2024 batch.

Safe for lash extensions?

Yes. The hollow center means the satin never rests on the lashes. Customers with extensions tell us this is the first mask that hasn't damaged them in their sleep. The fabric is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tested, no harmful residues against the skin or eye area.

What's the return policy?

30 nights. Sleep on it. If it isn't right, send it back. UK return shipping is on us. International customers pay the return. No questions asked about the reason.
